The minutemen-types have proven me right. I pointed out in Minutemen/Bikers Supporting Business that Wants Day Labor Center? that the same folks who were supporting this business that has said they'd prefer a day labor center (in order to cut down on the number of workers lining the streets) are those who would protest a day labor center. And sure enough, they have been protesting at the Macehualli center.
They are showing up armed, intimidating people who would hire workers by telling them they'll turn them in to the police. They have chosen to promote the false idea that it is illegal to hire day laborers. According to an announcement put out by organizers in defense of the center, "Casual Labor is not against the law and employers do not have to file an I-9 for eventual, impermanent work at home or place of residence." Well, that won't deter the minuteman-types from continuing to lie, since their whole movement is built on lies and hypocrisy.
