Migrant March Arrives TODAY 400pm Tijuana

PRESS/COMMUNITY ADVISORY

March for Migrants returns home Tuesday February 28th 400pm @ Border Monument @ Playas de Tijuana

March/Caravan members return to the site of the start of the Historic March but now will plant the final of 4000 crosses on Mexican side (by the bullring at the sea, monument across from Border State Park on Tijuana side).

On February 2, 2006 two dozen vehicles left the site of the assassination of Guillermo Martinez Rodriguez in San Ysidro California to march/caravan across the country to hear and listen to the voices of the Migrant Community before reaching Washington DC to meet with legislators including the offices of Clinton, Kennedy, Filner, Gutierrez, Pelosi, Feinstein, Boxer, Specter and others to gain support against HR 4437 as well as other anti immigrant legislation that has been on the rise under the current administration.
...

The murder of Guillermo Martinez Rodriguez by the US border patrol was the final straw as Enrique Morones of BORDER ANGELS & GENTE UNIDA announced the march/caravan idea in mid January and thousands of people have come out to meet or join the group at various points in the historic cross country journey.

40 cities in 27 days; more than 100 vehicles and thousand of supporters have joined in saying no to HR4437, NO MORE DEATHS, NO MORE RACISM/VIGILANTISM and YES to human rights. Stops included the 400 cross ceremony at Holtville cemetery to remember the unidentified migrant buried there, a candlelight vigil with UFW co-founder Dolores Huerta in Los Angeles's Plazita Olvera, citizenship classes with Hermandad in Ventura, a rally on the State Capitol Steps in Sacramento with Senator Gil Cedillo, NO MORE DEATHS support rally in Arizona, Mecha outpouring from California to DC, 19 crosses planted in a solemn ceremony in Victoria, Texas. Rallies with our Bracero & farmworking brethren, national support from LULAC (President Hector Flores joined marchers in Dallas, Texas), MALDEF & NCLR support at community gatherings, a TAMALADA in Chicago, marches from coast to coast, a protest rally in Atlanta, Georgia in front of CNN headquarters (protesting the racist Lou Dobbs broken borders show), the chanting of the names of the 4000 that have died crossing from Mexico since 1994 by priests in Durham, North Carolina, talks on college campuses from Riverside to Madison Wisconsin, community town halls in places such as Minnesota, Denver, Baltimore and Las Vegas, multicultural & INTERFAITH PARTICIPATION including masses in South Bend NORTE DAME university and yesterday's beautiful migrant Mass in Albuquerque, New Mexico and so much more.

Tomorrow will meet with Maywood Mayor Felipe Aguirre (migrant sanctuary city) before heading to Tijuana for the planting of the final cross with Agustin Martinez (Guillermo's brother) at the fence in Playas de Tijuana.

"The communities received us with open homes, open arms and open hearts as we stayed with people from all over the world in a united front for Human Rights. It began with just one person but grew to include thousands as communities have been re-awakened & re-energized, we are all united in defeating the nationwide version of Prop 187, its called HR4437, it's inhumane, un-American and just plain racist" concludes Enrique Morones. "Our journey is far from over as we will be in Mexico City before the July 2nd elections and will definitely be back with more Migrant March/Caravans in the future.
