5th Peoples' Global Action Gathering in Europe – Athens 20th / 27th of August

The 5th gathering of Peoples Global Action in Europe this time will take
place in Greece.
A responsibility of organizing and coordinating the discussion that opened
in the last meetings of PGA europe has taken by a decentralized network of
activists and collectives in Balkans. Thats exactly and the essential
advantage of this initiative. The convenor is not a local collective like
other conferences in the past but a vital balkan decentralized network.
On the preparation all of these months several questions , problems as
well as ideas for taking action are allready mentioned by all of us who

October Rebellion Against the IMF BEGINS! Over 150 protest at ICE

At noon on Oct 19, over 150 people filled the narrow street in front of ICE, demanding an end to raids and deportation of immigrants driven to the US by policies like NAFTA and IMF/World Bank programs.

Soon, the cops forced everyone onto the sidewalk(people complied so as not to endanger immigrants in the crowd), and this led to a speech about a "narrow space for democracy" in the US...

No One is Illegal - Vancouver Report on Actions to Oppose the SPP

VANCOUVER ACTIONS TO OPPOSE THE SPP

Actions effectively disrupt government and corporate targets; result in 1 arrest.

On August 20th between 300-400 people marched through downtown Vancouver, unceded Coast Salish Territory, to resist and reject the colonial and capitalist agenda of the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP). The march was part of a continental day of action to resist the SPP and the meeting of Bush, Harper, and Calderon in Montebello, Quebec at a SPP Summit. The march sought to draw attention to the Canadian government's active involvement in the SPP's creation, as well as the role of the Canadian government and corporations in colonial projects both at home and abroad.

Protests Against Mexican Governors in Chicago, New York and Dallas

On August 16th, email alerts were circulating that Oaxaca governor Ulises Ruiz Ortiz (URO) and other governors from Mexico were visiting Mexican Consulates in Chicago on August 17th, New York City on the 18th and Dallas on the 19th to discuss migratory reform. Activists quickly organized demonstrations in solidarity with the people of Oaxaca, and all of Mexico, as well as the millions of Mexican migrants living on the northern side of the US/Mexico border.

A flyer passed out in New York City labeled Ruiz Ortiz, “a co-conspirator with the US government and multinational corporations in the imposition of a political economy, which forces entire communities from his state to migrate north in search of better lives.” The flyer, composed by the Ulises Ruiz Welcoming Committee, also explains that, “Ruiz has attempted to quell social unrest through the criminalization of dissent, the militarization of communities, and the direct support of paramilitary groups in his state.”

To those familiar with the cowardliness of Ruiz Ortiz, it was not a big surprise that he failed to show up with the delegation. Even though he was the focus of the demonstrations, his absence did not prevent activists from protesting the rest of the Mexican Governors and representatives of URO who were with the CONAGO (National Conference of Mexican Governors) delegation. Montebello is Fortress North America :: We will not be caged!

WHY WE ARE PROTESTING!

Montebello, Quebec (August 19-21, 2007) -- George Bush, Stephen Harper and Mexican President Felipe Calderon are meeting behind steel fences and
thousands of police at the Chateau Montebello, as part of the so-called
"Security and Prosperity Partnership".

They talk about "security" and "prosperity", but their agenda really means
insecurity and misery for working and oppressed peoples in the Americas.

In brief, the "Security and Prosperity Partnership" (SPP) combines the
destructive neo-liberal policies of the North American Free Trade Agreement
(NAFTA) with the fear and paranoia of post 9-11 "Homeland Security"
policies. The SPP is firmly rooted within a colonial and capitalist
framework.

There is no mystery to the SPP agenda: murderous wars and occupations
abroad; border militarization; increased detentions and deportations;
attacks on indigenous peoples, the poor, migrants, and working people;
ecological destruction; mega-projects in the service of corporate greed; and
much more and worse.

"NAFTA-Plus," Migration, and the Future of North America

Ted Lewis | August 14, 2007

This August 20th and 21st, President George Bush and Mexican President Felipe Calderón will travel to the remote Canadian resort of Montebello, Quebec to confer with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper about the future of North America. Their agenda will be dominated by a little known "NAFTA plus" strategy they are calling the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP).

While we don't know much about the specifics of the summit's closely held agenda, it's safe to say they won't be designing democratic, locally controlled, and earth-friendly policies. That's because instead of public meetings with representatives of the Mexican, American, and Canadian peoples, these right wing leaders will be huddling with the corporate elite club known as the North American Competitiveness Council, whose members include Wal-Mart and Lockheed Martin, among others.

The Militarization And Annexation Of North America

The SPP, NACC and Deep Integration

Besides the Bush administration's imperial aims and permanent war on the world, add the one at home below the radar. Its weapons include the WTO, NAFTA, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), FBI, CIA, NSA, NORTHCOM, militarized state and local police, National Guard forces, paramilitary mercenaries like Blackwater USA, and all other repressive instruments of state power and control. They target the people of three nations slowly becoming one headquartered in Washington. That's the apparent aim of those in power here wanting one continent, "indivisible" minus old-fashioned ideas like "liberty and justice for all" we used to believe in when, as kids, we recited our "Pledge of Allegiance." They now have a whole new meaning. They're just words drummed into young minds hoping they'll still believe them when they're old enough to know better.

There may be a greater scheme for the planet ahead, but this article only focuses on what we know about and how it's unfolding so far. It has a name, in fact, several, but they all aim for the same thing - one nation, indivisible, where three sovereign ones once stood, headquartered in Washington.

For an excellent analysis of the SPP, see The Militarization and Annexation of North America

August 20th is a continental day of action to oppose the SPP, a highly secretive agreement between US, Mexico, and Canada. The SPP is essentially NAFTA-plus-Homeland Security, firmly rooted within a colonial and capitalist framework. There is no doubt that the SPP will bring greater insecurity and misery: murderous wars and occupations abroad; border militarization; increased detentions and deportations; attacks on indigenous peoples, the poor, migrants, and working people; ecological destruction; and mega-projects in the service of corporate greed.

Leading upto August 20th, a wide range of educational events, actions, and creative resistance is being planned by a growing network of groups and individuals. Below are just some of the activities being planned, with many more being planned and confirmed...
