Event Announcement
The 5th gathering of Peoples Global Action in Europe this time will take
place in Greece.
A responsibility of organizing and coordinating the discussion that opened
in the last meetings of PGA europe has taken by a decentralized network of
activists and collectives in Balkans. Thats exactly and the essential
advantage of this initiative. The convenor is not a local collective like
other conferences in the past but a vital balkan decentralized network.
On the preparation all of these months several questions , problems as
well as ideas for taking action are allready mentioned by all of us who
No Borders UK
All over the world, refugees and migrants are being locked up in special prisons, disguised under various names, for the only 'crime' of fleeing wars or persecution or wanting to improve their lives. Without trial and with no automatic bail review, they can face months and years of incarceration in terrible conditions, before being forcibly deported to unsafe countries. The very idea of 'administrative detention' is a violation of people's basic human rights and fundamental freedoms. There have also been numerous reports of abuse and mistreatment at the hands of 'staff', lack or denial of medical care, obstruction of detainees' trying to handle their legal matters and so on. In the most extreme cases, these desperate conditions have led migrant prisoners to take their own lives.

MARCHA MIGRANTE II is a caravan traversing the entire MEXICO/US border from San Diego (Feb 2) to Brownsville Texas (Feb 9) and back (Feb 17). The caravan will gather stories along the border journey and share these stories at the People's Immigration Hearing in San Diego on the 17th as well as take these stories directly to Washington DC. The goal is humane and comprehensive immigration reform.
Initial Reports: (via Enrique Morones, Border Angels) San Diego (2/2): We planted the first of 4400 crosses and honored Oscar Garcia Barrios killed at border May 18th, 2006 as a very emotional letter was read (by Micaela Saucedo) from his mother. We then said good bye to all and 25 autos joined the MARCHA MIGRANTE II as we headed to our first stop the Holtville cemetery. Holtville (2/2): We planted 440 crosses for the unidentified but not forgotten migrants buried there. Yuma (2/3) We were met by 100 local community members and we placed 100 crosses for those that have died in the region the last 2 years alone. Phoenix (2/3): In the evening 500 people met us as we camped out and joined Elias Bermudez and other Arizona locals on a "fast for justice" 464 more crosses on the fences surrounding the camp site. Tucson (2/4): Isabel Garcia shares two heartbreaking stories of the tragic deaths of two children. Father Carney, Kat Rodriguez, Alexis Mazon and all of us were moved to tears as 12 year old Mathew (the youngest of the caravan group, asked "why we killing all these people" as 200 crosses laid in the middle of our circle. Douglas (2/4): Deliver supplies to migrants and to remember the tragic murder of Francisco Javier Dominguez (killed in the region, last month).

ABOUT Dissent! G8 Infotour
Once a year the leaders of the 8 richest nations meet behind closed doors in secret with no publicized agenda or published minutes, to discuss the fate of the world. They’ve been making empty promises for decades about improving the environment, poverty in Africa, and lots more, but the fact is that the G8 is not the solution to these ills, it is the problem! We are preparing in Germany for large scale protests against the G8 meeting this June 6-8, 2007, and plan to come tell you about what is going on here. We have done over 200 presentations in 25+ countries since November 2005, and are now coming to your town!
In case you haven't had a chance to check out the big number of anti-G8 web-sites we have over here in Germany (or got lost on a German language site looking around for more English), we've attached an overview below of what our normal "foreign" presentation consists of. There are also many links below.

MIGRANT MARCH II (February 2-17, 2006) San Diego to Brownsville to San Diego
“MIGRANT MARCH I†was a huge success as a caravan of vehicles crossed the country San Diego to DC and back (February 2-28, 2006) demanding justice for the migrants, no more deaths, asking the communities to take to the street and march against 4437 & support humane and comprehensive immigration reform. In the Spring immediately following MARCHA MIGRANTE I, ( 5 million people marched ! )
Next week…on Friday…MARCHA MIGRANTE II will again start February 2 (anniversary of Guadalupe/Hidalgo treaty and the day of the Candelaria) from San Diego, this time instead of crossing country, they will cross the entire US/MEXICO Border, from San Diego to Brownsville, Texas and back (Feb 2 – 17, 2007) which will culminate with an ALL PEOPLE’S IMMIGRATION HEARING in San Diego on February 17.
The caravan will gather stories along the border journey and share these stories at the February 17th even. Later will take stories directly to Washington DC as “we want humane and comprehensive immigration reform now!, we marched, we voted and now that the Democrats are in control of the house we want action†states Enrique Morones of BORDER ANGELS & GENTE UNIDA the originator of the MARCHA’S MIGRANTE.
MARCHA MIGRANTE II is finalizing plans for this historic trek and welcomes others to join in participation, “this is as grass roots as grass roots gets and its up to the people to say where, when and what we will do during the “MARCH/CARAVANâ€.
MARCHA MIGRANTE II has scheduled special tributes to Oscar Garcia Barrios in San Diego (steps from where he was shot at San Ysidro port of entry May 18, 2006), Douglas, Arizona (where Francisco Javier Dominguez Rivera was shot and killed by border patrol earlier this month) and in Redford, Texas a tribute to Eziquiel Hernandez (shot by Marines in 1997)
“MARCHA MIGRANTE I, was a huge success and we want to thanks all that supported us, this year has again generated tremendous interest and we are looking forward to visiting communities along the entire 10 state US/MEXICO border, on both sides of the border, join usâ€. Enrique Morones
