On Thursday, May 18 at 7 pm, an invitation to speak was given by the Institute of the Americas at UC San Diego and Jose Cuervo Tequila to Elba Esther Gordillo Morales, the leader of the Mexico's national teachers' union and a woman who was complicit in the murders of numerous dissident teachers and the rampant electoral fraud that put ultra right-wing president Felipe Calderon into power. A coalition of UCSD students, Mexican immigrants, high school students and other community members decided to show Gordillo that she is NOT welcome, to show the Insitute of the Americas that it is NOT ok to honor human rights criminals (as they did with former Mexican president Vicente Fox last month) and to treat Gordillo as she treats the teachers in her union - by silencing her.

Elba Esther Gordillo Morales, the head of the Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores para la Educación - SNTE (National Education Workers Union), will be speaking this Thursday (5/17) at 7 pm at the Institute of the Americas which is located on the UCSD campus in La Jolla. She is a union leader in the traditional Mexican mold - corrupt and open to collusion with right-wing political parties. She created a new section in Oaxaca to try to reduce the power of Section 22, the most radical, organized and powerful local in Mexico. She collaborated with the PAN (Partido de Accion Nacional) to assure the victory of current ultra right-wing president Felipe Calderon. Basically, she is a perfect ally for the Institute of the Americas, the same organization that gave the Peace and Democracy Award to the criminal ex-president of Mexico Vicente Fox.

El 29 de octubre, la Policía Federal Preventiva entró al zócalo de Oaxaca y desalojó el planton que se mantuvo la Seccion 22 del sindicato magisterial y la Asamblea Popular de los Pueblos de Oaxaca por 6 meses. Desde esta fecha, no ha entrado ninguna marcha al zócalo, todos los intentos han sido replegados por las fuerzas estatales...hasta hoy. On October 29th, the Federal Preventative Police entered Oaxaca's zocalo (central plaza) and removed the blockade that Section 22 of the teachers' union and the Popular Assembly of the Peoples of Oaxaca (APPO) had maintained for six months. Since that date, no march has entered the zocalo and all attempts have been prevented by the state forces...until today. Yesterday, students who were sympathetic to the APPO retook Radio Universidad for the first time since the radio was turned over by the APPO to the university at the beginning of December under death threats. They have said that they will maintain control of the radio for 2 days until the marches today and the national strike tomorrow (May 2) end. The state police of Ulises Ruiz (the corrupt governor of Oaxaca who the APPO has been trying to depose for the past year) are prepared for the possibility that the demonstrators will try to reestablish the blockade in the zocalo of Oaxaca today. Former Mexican president Vicente Fox, responsible for brutal police repression in Oaxaca, Atenco and Chiapas, is coming to receive the "Award for Democracy and Peace", given by the Americas Institute, a right-wing organization located on the UC San Diego campus. On April 13, several participants in the non-violent Reclaim the Streets were victims of police brutality. In the past year at least 17 people have been murdered by police and the border patrol in SD County. We need to show them that we will NOT be intimidated by their violence! Bring your bike! This will be a march against police brutality in all its forms in all locales, whether it is Oaxaca or San Diego. The march will end with a demonstration at the intersection of Broadway and 4th St, the location of the police violence against the peaceful Reclaim the Street participants and coincidentally the location of the U.S. Grant Hotel where Fox will be receiving his award.

There will be a planning meeting for the march at the Zapata statue in Chicano Park at noon on Saturday, April 21, during the Chicano Park day festivities.

Vicente Fox, el ex-presidente de Mexico, responsable por masacres de gente indígena en Chiapas, por las desapariciones de participantes en la lucha en Oaxaca y por la negligencia en el caso de las mujeres asesinadas en Juarez y Chihuahua, viene a San Diego el 25 de abril para recibir el "Premio de la Democracia y la Paz", dado por el Instituto de las Americas, una organización derechista que está ubicado en el campus de la Universidad de California de San Diego.

Despierto como de un letargo de un sueño apesumbrado
Aun me encuentro cocinando, Volteo a ver el reloj
Son casi las 6:00 de la tarde, mi hijo no a vuelto y ya es muy tarde
Un vuelco da mi corazón asi que apago el fogón y salgo a buscarlo,
Toda la gente viene corriendo y gritando ( corran que nos alcanzan, estos canijos
Nos quieren agarrar.) de repente veo a un conocido y le pregunto,
¿Que si a visto a mi hijo? Lo acaban de secuestrar, me dice gritando,
El helicóptero se lo acaba de llevar, no es posible me grita mi corazón.
¿adonde se lo han llevado sigo yo preguntando? A una cárcel para torturarlo,
Me contesta aun gritando, un grito que taladra mis sentidos y hace que casi me desmorone
Pero reacciono porque tengo que ir a buscarlo.!!No puedo creerlo solo tiene 16 años.
¿Como es posible que quieran encarcelarlo? Y en un penal de máxima seguridad
